Editorial Policy
Contents
InpatientRehabPlacement.com is committed to producing accurate, evidence-based, and clinically reviewed content that helps individuals and families navigate addiction treatment decisions. This Editorial Policy describes how we create, review, source, and maintain our content.
1. Our Mission & Editorial Independence
Our mission is to be the most reliable independent resource for finding and evaluating inpatient addiction treatment in the United States. We pursue this through:
- Independence: We do not own, operate, or have financial interests in any treatment facility listed on this Site.
- No paid placements: Facilities cannot pay to be included in, ranked higher in, or removed from our directory. Facility data is drawn exclusively from federal and state sources.
- No sponsored content: All editorial content is produced independently. Sponsored or affiliate content is clearly labeled as such.
- Conflict-of-interest disclosure: InpatientRehabPlacement.com does have an affiliated insurance brokerage relationship with Prodest Insurance Group. This relationship does not influence our treatment directory content or facility rankings. All Prodest-related content is clearly disclosed with appropriate FTC-compliant language.
2. Medical Review Process
Clinical content on InpatientRehabPlacement.com — including treatment descriptions, clinical guides, and informational articles — is overseen by our Medical Reviewer:
Dr. Sarah Mitchell
MD, FASAM, Board-Certified Addiction Medicine
Board-certified in Addiction Medicine; licensed to practice in New Jersey and New York.
What the Review Process Covers
Our medical reviewer evaluates content for:
- Clinical accuracy — treatment descriptions align with current evidence-based practices
- Person-first, stigma-free language ("person with substance use disorder" rather than "addict")
- Appropriate scope — no unsupported clinical claims, treatment guarantees, or outcome promises
- YMYL (Your Money or Your Life) compliance — no content that could cause harm if relied upon without professional guidance
- Compliance with SAMHSA, ASAM, and NIDA terminology standards
Review Frequency
Clinical content pages are reviewed at least annually, or sooner when significant changes occur in clinical guidelines or evidence. Pages display a "Last Reviewed" date. Content that has not been recently reviewed is flagged internally for prioritized update.
3. Data Sources
InpatientRehabPlacement.com relies on verified federal and state data sources. We do not fabricate statistics or rely on unverified third-party claims.
Primary Data Sources
- SAMHSA FindTreatment.gov — The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's national treatment facility locator. Source for: facility names, addresses, treatment types, accepted insurance, accreditation status.
- CDC National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) — Source for: county-level drug overdose death rates, year-over-year trends, national and state averages, fentanyl-involved overdose percentages.
- U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) — Source for: city and county population, median household income, poverty rate, uninsured rate.
- NSDUH (National Survey on Drug Use and Health) — Source for: state and national substance use prevalence data.
- State health departments and licensing agencies — Used to verify state-specific regulations, licensing body information, Medicaid expansion status, and Good Samaritan laws.
Data Limitations
All data sources have limitations. CDC overdose data typically lags 12-18 months behind the current date. SAMHSA facility data may not capture newly opened or recently closed facilities immediately. We note data vintage on pages where recency is material.
4. Content Standards
Writing Standards
- Reading level: Targeting an 8th-grade reading level (Flesch-Kincaid 60-70) for accessibility
- Active voice: Clear, direct sentences averaging 15-20 words
- Person-first language: "person with addiction," "substance use disorder," "in recovery" — never "addict," "drug abuse," or "clean"
- No marketing language: We do not use "best," "top-rated," "#1," "guaranteed," or similar superlatives about facilities
- No fabrication: All statistics must be traceable to a named data source
Prohibited Content
We will not publish:
- Specific treatment outcome rates or success percentages not supported by peer-reviewed evidence
- Content that stigmatizes people with addiction or mental health conditions
- Paid promotional content disguised as editorial content
- False or misleading claims about any treatment facility
- Content that constitutes medical advice for a specific individual
5. Facility Listing Criteria
To be listed in the InpatientRehabPlacement.com directory, a facility must:
- Appear in the SAMHSA FindTreatment.gov national database
- Be licensed by the appropriate state regulatory authority
- Offer at least one of: inpatient/residential treatment, medical detoxification, or medication-assisted treatment (MAT)
Facilities are not ranked by quality metrics, paid status, or referral relationships. Within a geographic area, facilities are ordered based on data completeness and proximity to the city center.
Facility Removal
Facilities may be removed from our directory if they:
- Are delisted from SAMHSA's database
- Lose state licensure
- Permanently close
- Are under active regulatory action for patient safety violations (at editorial discretion)
To report a facility concern, contact us using the information below.
6. Update Schedule
- Facility data: Synced with SAMHSA database quarterly
- Overdose & demographic statistics: Updated when new CDC / Census data is released (typically annually)
- Clinical content: Reviewed annually by our Medical Reviewer, or sooner when guidelines change
- Legal pages (privacy, terms, HIPAA): Reviewed annually or when regulatory changes require updates
Each content page displays the date it was last reviewed or updated.
